            OPERATION OF TRACKBOX  ( MODEM-VERSION )

---------------------------------------------------------------------

1. How to store the required Target-Number

( this only must be repeated in case a new number shall be used )

a. connect Sub-D-Connector named "GSM" ( printed on copper-foil side

   of PCB )

with COM-Port of PC by using a nullmodem-cable.

b. start a terminalprogram like e.g. HyperTerminal ( belonging to

   WINDOWS ) using parameters: COMx ( x = used COM-Port ),

19200bps,8,N,1 and disabled handshake / flow control

c. bring "J1" on TRACKBOX into "ON/CLOSED" position; apply supply

voltage to board; ( now TRACK-BOX is in configuration-mode and

corresponding menu must appear on PC-Screen )

d. Now GSM-Target-Number according to your wishes must be entered;

   use international format starting with "+" ( e.g.: +491711234567

); end insertion by typing "#"; after this number stored in EEPROM

is displayed once more for checking purposes.

( In case of problems it is possible to go back to start of

configuration-procedure simply by interrupting board supply for a

   short moment ).

e. In case target number is correct, remove power from board,

disconnect PC and bring Jumper "J1" in "OFF/OPEN" position. This

   ends storing the target-number.

2. PIN-Code request

When using a GSM-Modem, in most cases it only will start operation

after correct PIN-Code has been entered. While with standard

mobilephones this is done by manually typing required code number,

with GSM-Modems it has to be entered via the data port.

Some GSM-Operators even are allowing to disable this request, but in

general sending the PIN-Code is essential. TRACKBOX is using fix PIN-

Code "1234".

Pin-Code will be stored on SIM-Card. The best and easiest way for

providing this card for use with the GSM-Modem is, to insert it into

a conventional mobilephone before. Here ( if possible ) request for

sending the PIN-Number can be disabled or in case this is not

possible, currently used code can be changed to "1234".

3. Operation of TRACKBOX

The Jumpers

Function of jumper "J1" already has been described above . When in

"ON/CLOSED" position, board will start operation in configuration

mode. This means, after target number already has been stored

correctly, this jumper must remain "OFF/OPEN".

"J2" can be used to surpress sending the PIN-Code in cases, where

this is not required ( e.g. when this version of software is used in

conjunction with standard mobilephones ).

Jumper "J3" is used to select between SMS sendings in Standard-Mode

( OFF/OPEN ) or Flash-Mode ( ON/CLOSED ).  Flash-Mode-Messages after

reception directly will appear on display an there is no storage on

SIM-Card.

This mode is NOT allowed for use with SMS2OZI.

"J4" is used for selecting between sending NMEA-Code typ "RMC" (

OFF/OPEN )or "GGA" ( ON/CLOSED ) protocols. Of course selected type

of protocol also must be provided by used GPS-Receiver

After required target number has been stored correctly and handling

of Pin-Code is OK, all preparations are finished. After GPS-Receiver

and GSM-Modem are connected to TRACKBOX, the system must start

operation simply by applying power.

Pushing the ALARM-Button will initiate reading actual GPS-Data and

sending it immediately. After this the CALL-LED will light for a few

seconds. After an incoming has been detected, call CALL-LED will

flash for a short periode. Further steps are same like just described

when pushing the ALARM-Button.

Remark:

Modem version of TRACKBOX successfully has been tested with Siemens

"TC-35", but there were problems with elder model Siemens "M20". To

overcome this problem, a small software modification has been made.

For activation Pin 6 of processor "U2" has to be connected to ground.
